We are the Delta Chapter of Nu Kappa Epsilon at Cornell University. We are a music appreciation sorority that fosters a community centered around music. As an organization, we encourage those who feel that music is central to their lives to join our family. As a sorority, we try to bring the members together to give them a home on campus. Furthermore, our requirements to join the sorority are minimal because we strive to include everyone. For example, there is no audition process during recruitment to prove you can perform music because your love for music is enough! There is so much to separate people so we like to focus on our mutual love of music to bond together and become a true sisterhood.
Currently, we are officially going to become a chapter of Nu Kappa Epsilon, instead of a colony, in late August due to delays caused by COVID-19. We are extremely excited for this day to come and our struggles are just a reminder of how powerful music is for us. The connections music gifts us with are central to Nu Kappa Epsilon’s history. We were founded in 1994 at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. The founding president, Anne Steinbach, wrote:
"Whether it is singing or playing an instrument, each of us has learned to open up our souls
through our music. And that creates a special bond. I hope you, the future sisters of
Nu Kappa Epsilon, realize what an important gift you have, and how vital it is that you share
it with others. Because with people like you, there will always be music in the world, and the
world will be a happier place because of it."*
Our colony began in January of 2020. Currently, we are home to about fifteen people with varied interests and activities, such as Environment & Sustainability Studies, Biometry & Statistics, ILR, second-hand shopping, social justice, etc.
We are not affiliated with the Greek System so members are welcome to be a part of a Social Sorority on campus as well. We welcome anyone who is not a cis-male to join our organization. We are a safe, loving, and welcoming space.
As we build our organization, we will support a philanthropy, provide service opportunities, encourage a sense of community, and provide a home for our sisters on Cornell’s campus.
